You can get to the city centre by train. From the Changi Airport you can take take the MRT which is a quick and relatively inexpensive way to get around Singapore city. There is no direct line from Changi to the city centre, so the route requires a change at Tanah Merah Station to the 'green line' train heading Westbound. Remember to check which stop is the closest to your hotel. The journey takes around 30 minutes by train.

The City Shuttle will bring passengers to most downtown hotels at a rate of $9 per adult or $6 per child (below 12 years of age). The shuttle departs every 15 minutes and takes around 25 minutes to get to the centre of the city.

Visitors can get a EZ-Link card which allows you to travel on the subway. The Singapore Tourist Pass (STP) will allow you to travel as many times as you want for one day ($10), two days ($16) or three days ($20), and can be purchased at the MRT Stations.

Another way to get around the city is by the public buses which are recommended to first-time visitors as you can get a pretty good look at the city. The fare is based on the distance travelled, so remember to tap your card when you get in and when you are about to get off.

Getting a taxi in Singapore can be a good way to go to places that are not accessible by subway or bus. They are metered and can be quite expensive. To get a rough idea about the final fare, ask the driver for the surcharges and remember to ask for a receipt at the end of the trip.
